The Situation:
Tax dollars no longer provided our community with the level of medical service we once took for granted, i.e. a small Hospital and Emergency Room. More critically, we were losing doctors, and as of June 2008, could have been reduced to one pysician for 10,000 people. People traveling out-of-town for medical services were detrimental to business and the overall health of the community. To address this critical situation, a partnership was formed with the Kindale Developmental Association and Haugen Community Healthcare Society was created.

The Name:
With the permission of his son, the center was named for Dr. Ragnvald "Roy" Haugen - a revered family physician in Armstrong. (1939 - 1972)

The Solution:
The preference for many physicians, particularly new ones, is a "Group Practice" of at least 4 doctors and the use of Electronic Medical Records for tracking patients throughout the health system.

Armstrong did not have appropriate office space, so the Haugen Society undertook to provide a suitable facility in the Pharmacy Plaza, for which the doctors will pay all operating costs.

The addition of allied healthcare professionals, provided through this intregated health services facility, will also bring new benefits to the community.

Kindale will continue to partner with the Society, providing executive expertise and ongoing operational support. Kindale and HCHS are both registered non profit societies. We need to raise money and tax receipts will be issued for all donations.
